While many of us haven't finished paying off that well-deserved summer vacation, experts say RIGHT NOW may be the best time to think about your holiday vacation plans.

According to travel experts, waiting even a few more weeks to book a flight may be too late if you want to get the best deals.

Travel agent Michael Wondwossen says if you want to save hundreds of dollars on trips for Thanksgiving or Christmas, book between now and early September.

-Book tickets for Thanksgiving or Christmas between now and early September.

-Search for the best fare on as many travel sites as you can and search airlines websites (use fare trackers!)

-Be flexible, avoid flying on weekends

7 On Your Side asked Wondwossen to plan a trip to Kansas City from Reagan National Airport for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The best price we found for a direct flight from DC to Kansas City was $318 round trip. That's 100 to 150 dollars cheaper than if you book in late October or early November.

If you're willing to be flexible and avoid flying on the weekends, the best fare is $290, leaving on Thanksgiving morning and returning the following Monday.
