Balloon science with KidGINEER. (ABC7)
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — With the beyond bitter temps we’ve had, it’s safe to say we’re likely in for another freeze over these next two months of winter. So why not introduce your kids to STEM-based activities to keep learning all season long? Andrea H. Evans of KidGINEER stopped by with her daughter Nya to teach us a balloon-based STEM project.
Balloon Science Project
- The goal of the project is to demonstrate the power of gas produced when of baking soda and vinegar are mixed. The goal is for the balloon to be blown up by the gas created.
- Students learn about gas and chemical reactions by discovering how to inflate a balloon using a baking soda and vinegar reaction.
- A clean 8 -ounce or 16-ounce plastic soda bottle
- Measuring cups
- 1/2 cup of Baking Soda
- 1 cup of Vinegar
- Microfiber Towels
- Silver turkey trays
- Safety goggles
- Plastic bags
- Table clothes
