The Black Iris Project debuts "MADIBA" curated by Misty Copeland at the Kennedy Center

Classical ballet based on the life of humanitarian and political icon Nelson “Madiba” Mandela that takes his experience as an avid activist (ABC7)

The Black Iris Project is a premiere ballet collaborative that champions new Black-centric works and arts education. Artistic Director of The Black Iris Project, Jeremy McQueen and the Washington Ballet's Andile Ndlovu (who plays "Mandela" in MADIBA) joined GMW live in studio to discuss, their production "MADIBA," an original classical ballet about Nelson Mandela's life and legacy debuting at the Kennedy Center curated by American Ballet Theatre's principal ballerina Misty Copeland.

The week-long series runs through April 23 at the Kennedy Center. Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased on the Kennedy Center's website.
