In August, the D.C. Department of Health closed the labor and delivery ward and prenatal care unit at United Medical Center, the only hospital east of the Anacostia River. Today, Providence Hospital will also shut its labor and delivery ward. Kelly Sweeney McShane, president of Community of Hope, shared her mission to provide low-income families in Washington DC, including those experiencing homelessness, the opportunity to achieve good health, a stable home, family-sustaining income, and hope.
