Faking the Grade: Audit reveals Ballou HS teachers passed students despite high absences

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser discusses changes that will be made in the city's public school's after alleged grade fixing at Ballou High School. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 (Nathan Baca/ABC7)

An audit reveals that Ballou High School teachers passed students with grades they didn't earn despite a high number of absences.

Roughly 113 of 177 Ballou High School graduating seniors last year passed their classes in violation of district policy, according to an outside audit.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said they need to do a better job of following policy and enforcing grading and attendance in the city's schools.

One change that will be implemented will be automated phone calls made to parents from their child's school not only if they miss an entire day of school, but even a partial day.
