WASHINGTON (ABC7) —

A major underground transformer fire broke out late Monday, according to DC Fire and EMS. 

Officials say the fire broke out at 18th and L Street, NW and was "threatening" an office building. 

Pepco crews arrived on the scene to cut power so firefighters could continue to work on putting the fire out.
