At 18 years old, Daniel Adum is a man of many talents: musician, actor, athlete.

"I'm a three-sport athlete in lacrosse, soccer and wrestling," he said.

What wasn't clear for the senior at Mclean School in Potomac, Maryland was where he'd go to college.

"In reality, my other options for college were looking pretty slim," said Adum.

Not anymore.  "You have been selected as a Dorsey Scholar!" announced employees from McDaniel College on Skype.

It was a life-changing virtual announcement from the academic institution in Westminster, Maryland.

Adum has received the school's highest honor: a Dorsey Scholarship that covers tuition, room, and board for all four years.

"It's definitely an honor and a privilege and a blessing to receive such a prestigious award," he said.

Adum isn't the only Gaithersburg resident celebrating the honor.

Eighteen-year-old Rachel Allen is a senior at Gaithersburg High School who has a 3.8 GPA.

The longtime Girl Scout and co-editor-in-chief of her school newspaper said winning the $200,000 scholarship is a dream come true.

"I went in the hallway where my mom was and we just started balling our eyes out and I was just so excited," she said.

Haley Arnold of Newburg, Maryland also received a Dorsey Scholarship. She attends Maurice J. McDonough High School in Pomfret.

The Dorsey Scholarship also provides money for books, technology, and a trip to Budapest.
