Winter Weather: Power crews plan for storm

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Pepco says it's keeping a close eye on the forecast in preparation for this weekend's winter weather. Spokesperson Shelley Kudelka says crews are ready to respond should there be downed lines and power outages in the D.C. area.

As of Friday afternoon, Pepco says it's not expecting extensive outages on Sunday. The company defines "extensive" as 200,000 or more. However, officials note that the forecast can change quickly and they're ready to bring in extra crews as needed.

Forecasters are predicting icy weather for Sunday, which means there is a possibility of power outages. Kudelka says that it's important for customers to notify them when their power does go out, and not assume that they already know. People can call 877-PEPCO-62 to report downed wires and outages.

They also suggest that people charge their cell phones and laptops ahead of Sundays storm.
