Winchester snow storm, power outages and accumulations

After eight solid hours of snowfall, Winchester is now dealing with howling winds and another round of wet weather. As of noon Wednesday, nine inches of snow had fallen.

More than 57,000 homes are without power in the Shenandoah Valley thanks to high winds and heavy snow on trees and power lines.

The storm began as rain Tuesday night but quickly turned to heavy snow by midnight. And after steady snowfall{ } throughout the night and morning, more is expected Wednesday afternoon. Residents could see more than a foot of snow by the end of the storm.

Traffic on Winchester's Route 50 is extremely light as everyone has been urged to stay home and off the roads. Crews have been keeping the major roads plowed and treated with salt.

Schools were closed for the day.
