A cold front will cross the area today. You will be able to tell when the front passes through your location because the wind will shift to the northeast. This will bring a slightly cooler flow of air into those areas. Meanwhile, areas south of the front will be somewhat warmer. The graphic below shows the effect of the front. Isolated showers could develop this afternoon near the front. Northeast of Washington highs may only reach 70 degrees while south and southwest of Washington temperatures may get close to 80 degrees.

Cooler air will overspread the entire region tonight resulting in patchy drizzle and fog. That will burn off tomorrow morning as the cold front pushes back through the area as a warm front. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s. On Friday, we expect a partly sunny, breezy and warm day until a much stronger cold front arrives late in the day. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast to precede and accompany the front. Some could be strong to servere. Clearing, breezy, and much cooler weather is forecast for the weekend.
