Strong upper level winds high above the extremely hot and humid air at the surface produced a line of severe thunderstorms across the region this afternoon. Later tonight, skies will be clear to partly cloudy and it will remain very warm and humid. High pressure, responsible for the high heat and humidity will be in place tomorrow as a cold front approaches from the west. This will lead to a high likelihood of more numerous showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
At the same time, strengthening TS Arthur will be moving northward just offshore of the Carolina Coastline. It is expected to become a hurricane late at night. The Outer Banks of NC will get a brief brush of hurricane conditions, Mid-Atlantic beaches may have brief Tropical Storm conditions. Rapid clearing and improvement is expected during the day Friday.
