Washington D.C. Forecast: Icing possible tonight

Tonight:Freezing Rain and Rain Developing Lows: Near Freezing Precipitation: 80% Wednesday:Morning Rain, Freezing Rain NW, then Clearing, Breezy and Mild Highs: 40s Wind: NW 10-20 m.p.h. Thursday:Mostly Sunny and Cold Highs: Upper 30s Wind: NW 4-8 m.p.h.

It appears we will be on the fringe of the latest, headline-making winter storm. While our area WILL NOT have a snow storm, there is a good chance areas north and west of Washington will have significant impacts from sleet and freezing rain…ice. The farther north and west you are from D.C., the more impactful the storm will be.

The D.C. Metro Area will have a period of sleet and freezing rain overnight but warmer temperatures moving in from the south will turned the icy precipitation into all rain before sunrise. Skies will become partly sunny by the afternoon with mild temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny to partly cloudy and cold with temperatures back in the upper 30s. Another chance for rain and snow exists this weekend as an area of low pressure moves back into the region by Sunday.
