A sprawling area of cold high pressure is moving into the area following the passage of the arctic cold front. Gusty winds and cloudy skies have added a notable chill to the already unseasonably cold air. Skies will clear tonight and temperatures will fall into the lower 20s in some suburban locations and may dip below freezing even in downtown Washington. The winds will be gusty at times, too. This will make it feel even colder.

Tomorrow will be the last unseasonably cold day with highs only in the lower to middle 40s even with sunny skies. More sunshine is in our forecast for Thursday and Friday with highs rebounding into the middle 50s. Over the weekend we expect more clouds than sunshine. It might be mostly cloudy at times and with increasing southerly and southeasterly winds, temperatures will slowly warm. There will also be a chance for a stray sprinkle or shower.
