We are still expecting to see developing west and southwesterly winds, ahead of a strong cold front, boost temperatures{ }into the 60s{ }and perhaps{ }70s in places.{ }As of this time, we are still wedged in a chilly and damp airmass dominated by eastelry winds. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany the front and some of these storms could{ }become severe, especially across Southern Maryland and adjacent sections of Virginia.

Behind the front, winds will dramatically increase. In fact, a Wind Advisory will go into effect for all of the area at 3 p.m.

A High Wind Warning will start at 3 p.m. well north and west of the District (scroll down to see the Advisory/Warning map). Winds will gust to 50 mph and could top 60 mph in spots within the{ }warning area.

Temperatures will start falling this afternoon and continue to fall{ }through the night as much colder air is delivered to the region by gusty winds. The winds will continue tomorrow but diminish by Sunday. High temperatures will hold in the 40s all weekend, but on Monday, temperatures will head back the other way with highs expected to reach the middle or upper 50s.
