Heat index values forecast 100+ today and Thursday, Storm threat Friday

Heat Advisory Thursday Noon to 8pm

The combination of high heat in the upper 90s and dew points around 70 will make it feel like over 100 degrees the next two days. While no heat alerts are in place, please be sure to take necessary precautions as heat is still the number one weather-related killer.

Be sure to limit you time outside if at all possible and if you need to be out, take frequent breaks. Drink plenty of fluids but be sure to limit alcoholic beverages. Wear light colored, loose fitting clothes and if you need to get a workout in, it’s best to go as early as possible.

The hottest day is still expected to be Thursday but Friday is still forecast to remain hot and humid with highs in the low to mid 90s.

Storm chances will also increase on Friday ahead of a mid-level disturbance. Strong to severe storms are in the forecast with the majority of the region in a marginal risk for severe storms. Areas to the northeast of DC are in a Slight Risk for severe storms as shown, and damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats.

Conditions should settle back towards seasonal levels this weekend. High temperatures are forecast to be around 90 degrees and dew points are expected to be in the mid 60s, leading to at least some additional comfort.
