A wave of strong storms across the D.C. area Sunday caused widespread damage. Downed trees hit houses and power lines, causing power outages.
Flights were delayed at all area airports with Thurgood Marshall-BWI reporting delays up to three hours.
Lightning caused a fire at the Wild Buffalo Grill in North Laurel.
At 6:15 p.m., Pepco reported more than 13,000 power outages, including 1,962 in D.C., 4927 in Montgomery County, and 6,399 in Prince George's County.
Eventually, more than 20,000 customers were without power, Pepco says. As of 8:00 p.m., Sunday, approximately 8,400 customers remain without power.
Baltimore Gas and Electric Company says that service has been restored to approximately100,000 customers since Friday when the severe, fast moving storms began affecting Central Maryland.
BG&E says that they expect the majority of their customers to be back online by early Monday afternoon.
