The annual Harvest Moon arrived overnight, an annual symbol that autumn is coming soon.

The Harvest Moon is defined as the closest full moon to the fall equinox, according to The Weather Channel. That full moon was present overnight Wednesday into Thursday, just days before the Sept. 22 astrological changing of the seasons.

The official definition of a full moon is the exact moment when the moon lies directly opposite the sun. According to The Weather Channel, that didn't happen until just before 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Last year's Harvest Moon was visible in late September.
