First good snows for the ski resorts this Winter

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Tuesday afternoon for the western slopes of the mountains and snowfall totals may reach up to a foot in some areas. The main reason is the strong cold front and first real arctic air of the season being pushed south into the mountains. The strong winds will make for upslope snow showers on the{ }windward side of the mountains. This set up looks to remain through Wednesday morning before the winds diminish. Here is a look at a great timelapse from Wintergreen this morning as well as a look at the watches and warnings.

This will be great for such areas as Wisp Ski Resort, which has only seen 20 inches of snow so far this year. Here are some webcams of the resort. Locally, only a few flurries will be possible over the next few days, but be sure to tweet me at @alexliggitt or send any pictures to if you see some as we'd love to share them on air.

Here is the latest snowfall totals from the National Weather Service in Sterling, VA.

At least we won't need to deal with anything like they have to in Oswego County, NY. They're only expecting{ }up to two feet of lake-effect snow over the next day or two!
