Clouds increased overnight ahead of a potent storm system that will bring a wide variety of precipitation types across the area. Flurries, in fact, have already begun in some areas of the Washington region and a mix of snow and rain is being reported in others.

The best chance for sleet, snow and freezing rain will be north and west of the District. During the early morning hours, about an inch may accumulate in the far western suburbs, with three or more inches across west-central Maryland and the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. By Wednesday morning, in these areas, sleet and snow will switch to freezing rain and rain.

Mainly rain will fall across D.C. and points south and east, with totals up to two-inches of liquid precipitation (rain). The system will lift toward New York City by Thursday morning allowing for clearing skies and windy conditions.
