As high pressure builds back into the area Wednesday, we are forecasting plenty of sunshine along with a northwesterly breeze. Skies will remain clear tonight as temperatures drop into the 20s.

Most areas will see some sunshine Thursday morning before clouds start streaming back into the area during the afternoon. These clouds will precede a coastal storm which is expected to bring rain and a wintry mix{}to our area and snow to portions of New England.

Our major focus in the weather center will be the potential coastal storm. Computer models suggest precipitation could begin tomorrow night and continue through early Friday afternoon. Precipitation type will be an issue, as often is the case in the mid-Atlantic.

Right now, odds favor all rain south and east of Washington. However, temperatures at the surface and aloft could allow areas north and west of Washington to see a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet.

While it is still too early to forecast a precise line between areas that will see just rain and those likely to see the wintry mix, it is not too early to{}predict the Friday morning commute will be adversely affected by weather conditions. We will be on Storm Watch on air, online and on WTOP Radio.
