A Winter Storm Watch will go into effect for most of the D.C. area starting Tuesday evening.

After a blustery, cold weekend with abundant clouds, we are in for more in the way of sunshine Monday. It will still be breezy though with highs in the middle 40s. Tuesday starts with sunshine but clouds will fill in with highs once again well into the 40s.

By late in the day, some rain and snow showers develop ahead of a potent and dynamic storm system approaches our region for Wednesday.

It is still too early in the game to give a snow map this morning, as there are still some variables to work out. Rain will mix in at times and just how much of this occurs will be key to accumulations. Temperatures will also hover near and above freezing which can cut into accumulations.

However, a heavy enough snowfall rate can overcome the mild surface air. Some spots across the region will have plowable snow! But until we see a little more model consistency later this day, who gets what is still not set.

To best prepare, know that this system really gets going in the immediate metro area Wednesday with the biggest impact times from Wednesday morning into the afternoon rush.

This will be a wet and heavy snow and could bring down power lines and limbs, especially as winds become a factor late Wednesday and into Thursday. Sun returns for the end of the week and weekend with moderating highs. Stay tuned.
