High pressure has produced a spectacular autumn day with bright sunshine and temperatures in the 50s. Clouds will be increasing tonight as that high pressure center moves out and a cold front and associated area of low pressure moves in. The next system will be a quick mover and has limited moisture available, so precipitation locally will be light. As far as what type of precipitation we will see…it looks likes it will be mostly rain for the metropolitan areas and areas to the south and east. A mix with wet flakes is a possibility.Snowfall forecast for Tuesday
The farther north and west you are from Washington, the more likely the rain and snow mix will change to snow. Minor slushy accumulations are possible across northern Carroll and Frederick Counties in MD and across western Loudoun County and areas westward in VA and across the eastern WV Panhandle. Higher elevations farther north and west in MD, VA and WV could see 1” to 3” of slushy snow. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but it will remain rather chilly.
