Some early risers north of the metro area awakened to snow flurries. A little atmospheric disturbance moving across southern PA and northern MD was the cause. High pressure will fill back in today and produce partly to mostly sunny skies. A few clouds will move in tonight and tomorrow{ }will become overcast during the day. A strong storm system and cold front moving through the middle of the country will take a swipe at us. The result will be rain developing tomorrow and continuing through tomorrow night. The rain will be moderate at times...could be briefly heavy in spots. We need the rain... we are more than 8 inches below average precipitation for the year. And by the way, this system that will give us the rain is creating heavy snow across parts of the Central Plains and Upper Midwest. The cold front will cross our area Friday morning delivering strong winds and will end the string of unseasonably mild days. A Winter Storm Watch is posted across Western MD for 6+ inches of snow.

The weekend will be be seasonably cold and dry. Gusty winds will continue on Saturday but subside on Sunday. High temeperatures will be in the lower 40s. And looking ahead to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, our latest forecast is for sunny and cold weather{ }in the Washington area and{ }across the entire mid-Atlantic region.
