Early morning sunshine is quickly fading behind the clouds as a storm system moves in from the SW.{} It will spread moisture into the area by midday and it's possible it may be cold enough at the onset for a bit of a rain/snow mix in the metro with freezing rain or sleet north and west of The District and in the higher elevations.

As temperatures warm into the low 40s by afternoon, all precipitation will change to plain rain. We are not expecting any serious travel trouble from this storm. Tonight, the storm will head northeastward and there could be some lingering drizzle and fog for Old Saint Nicholas with lows in the low 30s.

By Christmas Day, drier weather will arrivebrieflyproviding us with some sun and seasonable temperatures in the upper 40s. On Wednesday, a new storm will arrive from the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. This could bring a wintry mix through the early morning, mainly north and west of The District and in the higher elevations, but locally it should be a good soaker! Following this second storm, blustery northwesterly winds will bring drier weather into the area for Thursday and Friday with seasonable temperatures in the 40s. Have a great Christmas Eve!
