D.C. Weather Forecast: Seasonable Temperatures Ahead

Tonight: Cloudy skies with a few sprinkles of flurries possible through the evening

Lows: Upper 20s to lower 30s | Wind: NE 5 mph

      Wednesday: Partly to mostly sunny

      Highs: Middle 40s | Wind: N 5-15 mph

      Thursday: Partly sunny and seasonable

Highs: Low to mid 40s | Wind: ESE 5-10 mph

Temperatures inched above the 40 degree mark today under mainly cloudy skies. A few sprinkles and flurries were noted north and west of Washington during the afternoon. Skies will remain mostly cloudy tonight with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Wednesday will begin with some cloudiness, but skies should clear during the day returning sunshine to the entire region. Thursday will begin with sunshine but that will fade behind increasing high level cloudiness.

The period from Thursday night through Friday morning has generated a lot of discussion in the weather center. The reason is how computer models are handling the potential development of a low pressure complex across the region. It is possible that a single low pressure center might develop along the southeast U.S. coastline and then move towards the Outer Banks. If this indeed is what happens, it is likely the DC metro area and points south and east will see rain Thursday night and Friday morning AND areas north and west of Washington might have to deal with a wintry mix….especially early on Friday morning. We will watch conditions closely and keep you informed as Friday approaches.
