Virgin starts daily flight from SFO to DCA
Virgin America will fly a once-a-day nonstop flight to and from San Francisco International Airport to Reagan National Airport. This is in addition to their seven daily nonstop flights to SFO and LAX out of Dulles.
Virgin America's President and CEO David Cush told ABC7 News the airline will aggressively pursue any future opportunities at Reagan to gain cross country flights if they become available.
Reagan is a slot controlled airport, so only a set number of flights beyond 1,250 miles are permitted a day.
Congress approved an expansion in those slots allowing Virgin to add its nonstop service.
Southwest Airlines added a once a day nonstop to/from Austin, Tex. early this summer due to the slot expansion.
