The evening commute on Metro turned into a major mess Wednesday when an Orange line train's brakes failed, stranding commuters throughout Virginia and Washington.
The disabled train experienced a brake problem that couldn't be resolved; passengers had to be unloaded onto a rescue train inside the tunnel.
As a result, Orange line trains had to single track between Foggy Bottom and Clarendon, and Blue line trains shared a track between Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery.
WMATA says that delays reached up to an hour throughout the problem, but many commuters took to Twitter to say that their delays lasted upwards of two hours. Many abandoned the system entirely and found alternate ways home.
