Authorities at Dulles International Airport made an odd discovery among a passenger’s luggage: 15 bags of cooked sheep meat totaling 88 pounds.
The sheep meat, cooked in gravy, was discovered among the possessions of a passenger from Ethiopia who was bound for Seattle.
"Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists typically encounter similar food products arriving from Africa, but the sheer volume makes this an extraordinarily unique seizure," said Christopher Hess, Customs and Border Protection port director for the Port of Washington. "That's an awful lot of food product to stuff inside one's baggage. Hopefully, this seizure reinforces our message that travelers need be aware of regulations governing products that they can and can't bring to the U.S."
The passenger declared possessing the meat. Authorities released him and allowed him to go to his destination.
