Metro public hearings on budget cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) - Metro is holding a series of hearings, asking for the public's input on how to close a budget deficit of $66 million.

Two hearings will be held Wednesday evening, one at the First Baptist Church of Wheaton in Silver Spring and another in Arlington. Another hearing is planned for Thursday in Washington.

Proposed changes include eliminating and rerouting bus lines and increasing weekend subway wait times.

Metro also has a survey on possible options to resolve the shortfall. It will be available online until Friday.

Metro's board is slated to approve next year's budget over the summer. Any service changes would take place in September.
