LARGO, Md. (AP) - The Maryland State Police are kicking off a commercial vehicle safety initiative.

Starting Tuesday, inspection teams will work at various locations throughout the Washington area. The kickoff will last 72 hours.

They will inspect commercial vehicles committing traffic violations. The initiative focuses on safe equipment and operation of buses, trucks and other commercial vehicles operating in North America.

Police say Roadcheck 2013 is held to remind carriers of the importance of maintenance and compliance with commercial vehicle safety regulations.
