A highway worker who was lining a Howard County road with cones Tuesday night was hit and killed by a car, authorities say.
The crash happened just after 9:20 p.m. Tuesday on westbound Maryland State Route 216/Scaggsville Road near Columbia Pike, where the worker was setting cones in one of the lanes.
That's when Howard County Police say the worker, who has not been identified, was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the worker, who was contracted by Road Safety Traffic Control Company LLC, was wearing a reflective shirt at the time.
The driver of the car that struck the worker stayed at the scene. Howard County Police say an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
