(WJLA) - Alexandria-area residents could soon have another option to get from the waterfront to the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. once a brand new fast ferry service launches.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4 million grant to the Northern Virginia Regional Commission to establish the service, according to ABC 7 news partners WTOP.
The grant money will be used to purchase two ferry boats and also pay for the ferry's to operate during regular commuter hours.
The ferry service could be up and running as early as next year, WTOP reports.
