Crews will be delivering and installing concrete barriers along the Anacostia Freeway this weekend. The work will create safeguards for crews installing message boards over the next few weeks.
With the increased volume for Labor Day travel, this could mean big delays for commuters. Here's what you can expect:
On Saturday, the right lanes on 295 north and south will close temporarily. Drivers should avoid the area on 295 and D.C. 295 from midnight on Saturday until noon on Sunday if possible.
I- 295 will have lanes closed between Malcolm X Avenue and Suitland Parkway. D.C. 295 will have lanes closed between Pennsylvania Avenue and East Capitol.
This work is scheduled to continue through September. Shoulder closures for work run from Sept. 5 through Sept. 28.
Temporary signs will be up. Commuters are asked to stay alert if they're traveling through this stretch of road. Construction may be rescheduled due to weather conditions.
