Amtrack suspends some service ahead of winter storm

(WJLA) - With a winter storm already dropping snow across the southeast before making its way north, Amtrak has begun suspending some rail service along the east coast.

The national rail carrier announced Tuesday night that it has suspended service on some routes connecting New York City to cities in Louisiana, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina. Affected Amtrak routes include the Crescent, Silver Star, Silver Meteor, Palmetto, Carolinian and Piedmont, all of which include multiple stops in the Washington area.

Amtrak said the service suspensions are intended to, "reduce the exposure of Amtrak passengers, crews and rail equipment to extreme weather conditions."
