LANDOVER (WJLA) - With the Washington Redskins opening their home preseason schedule Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers, fans will be soon turning out in droves to FedEx Field.

The National Football League has a message for fans, though - leave your purses and backpacks at home.

The league has tightened stadium security starting this preseason, limiting the size and type of bags fans can bring to the game.{ }

Only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches will be allowed, with the exception of medically necessary items. One-gallon plastic freezer bags are also OK, as are small plastic bags the size of a hand.

Banned items include purses larger than a clutch, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage, computer bags and camera bags.

Binoculars, cameras and phones are still permitted.

The NFL ramped up security at the draft in late April, its one major event since the Boston Marathon bombings.
