Washington Nationals host ballpark tour ahead of 2017 baseball season
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
You won’t see President Trump on the field for Opening Day. The Nationals team management invited him to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, but he declined due to a scheduling conflict.
What you will see is some new features at Nats Park, including eight MGM seats alongside the dugout.
“It is for customers of MGM and they are determining who their best customers are and will get to come on down,” said Valerie Camillo, Nationals Marketing Officer.
Just six days away from opening day, we went on a tour to see what fans can expect.
The promotional items will add to the bobblehead collection. Daniel Murphy, Trea Turner, and Tanner Roark are on deck. A fedora will be handed out to 25,000 fans on July 26th.
“It was new and it was a recommendation request from fans,” said Camillo.
A Chewbacca koozie is part of the lineup for Star Wars Day on May 27th, along with hats that show off college pride.
If baseball isn’t your passion, the food may be.
“We’ve got my favorite, your backyard BBQ tots. So it’s tater tots, topped with mac and cheese, pulled pork, buffalo sauce and then a few fried onions sprinkled on top,” said Jonathan Stahl, the VP of Ballpark Operations.
Specialty tater tots, chicken and waffles, Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts and a berry salad are some of the new selections.
Also new this year is the maternity line. You can find it at the team’s home plate store. One shirt reads a Nationals fan is on deck.
“Forty-two percent of our ticket buyers are female,” said Camillo.
Beginning Monday, fans can also download the Ballpark App to buy tickets and even concessions.
We don’t know yet who will take the mound for the first pitch on opening day, but the team is at bat to impress fans.
