Cubs error helps Nats win
The Washington Nationals collected 10 hits, but it was an error that proved to be the games most important play in their 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night.
With the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the first, Washington’s Laynce Nix hit what should have been a tailor made double play ball to second baseman Jeff Baker – but instead of the Cubs turning two, the Nats scored two when Baker’s throw sailed past shortstop Darwin Barney. The errant throw allowed Roger Bernadina and Danny Espinosa to score and gave Washington a two nothing lead. Later in the inning Wilson Ramos gave the Nationals their third run with an infield single off the glove of third baseman Aramis Ramirez.
Ross Detwiler got the win in his season debut for Washington, allowing two runs over 5 1-3 innings.
