Ovechkin joins special players for street hockey in front of Capital One Arena
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
Street hockey in the middle of F street right in front of the Capital One Arena.
It isn’t playing inside on the national stage, but it’s the next best thing for the players.
They’re all a part of the American Special Hockey Association. Created in 2000 for players with developmental disabilities, it gives people of all ages a chance to learn and grow by playing hockey.
When you’re a hockey fanatic like these guys and gals it couldn’t get much better than this… Or could it?
In steps Capitals superstar number 8 Alex Ovechkin
Not only did he surprise his biggest fan, he gave ASHA a check of $5000 on behalf of Capitals in celebration of the NHL’s centennial.
“They play hard. They were all over me,” said Alex Ovechkin. “A couple of guys hit me and I had fun as well.”
