Canadian Olympic Hockey team roster announced Tuesday

(WJLA) - The Washington Capitals will send two more of its high-profile players to compete at the Sochi Winter Olympics, but none among them will take the ice for the defending Gold Medal winners.

Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom will represent Russia and Sweden respectively for their teams at the 2014 Winter Olympics, the teams announced today.

However, Canada will boast no D.C. representation as they prepare to defend their 2010 Olympic title. That gold medal winning team didn't have a Washington player on it either.

The full Canadian Olympic roster is as follows:

Forwards: Jamie Benn, Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Matt Duchene, Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Patrick Marleau, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Patrick Sharp, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Jonathan Toews

Defensemen: Jay Bouwmeester, Drew Doughty, Dan Hamhuis, Duncan Keith, Alex Pietrangelo, P.K. Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Shea Weber

Goaltenders: Roberto Luongo, Carey Price, Mike Smith

Capitals defenseman John Carlson will represent the United States in Sochi.
