(WJLA) - Nationals Park will be the venue for next January's NHL Winter Classic, which is slated to be hosted by the Washington Capitals, according to ESPN.

Several venues, including RFK Stadium and FedEx Field, were also taken into consideration, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside report, but Nationals Park in Southeast D.C. will likely be where the game is played.

No opponent has been announced for the Jan. 1, 2015 game. It'll be the second time that the Capitals have played in the Winter Classic; in their other appearance, Washington beat the Pittsburgh Penguins at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh in 2011.

The Capitals announced that they would play host to the annual outdoor showcase this past September.
