Marine Corps Marathon to go on after government shutdown ends

(WJLA) - The Marine Corps Marathon has a simple message for its participants - we are on.

Race officials announced in a short video posted to Facebook that the race will go on as scheduled after being in jeopardy due to the government shutdown.

ARLNow first reported earlier this week that the race was in dangers of being canceled if the shutdown stretched through the weekend due to the large amount of the course that lies on federal property.

After the shutdown ended overnight Wednesday into Thursday, though, Marine Corps Marathon Director Rick Nealus enthusiastically declared the race a go.

The 38th annual Marine Corps Marathon is scheduled for Oct. 27.
