This week’s DC Touchdown Club Player of the Week award takes us to Columbia, where a lack of height has not been a problem for a prolific quarterback. Though just 5-foot-8 ½, Tyler Martin has gotten used to finding passing lanes through the offensive line. He is in his third year starting for the Hammond Bears and last weekend enjoyed one of the finest nights ever for a Maryland high school quarterback.
Martin, a senior, completed 31 of 41 passes for 441 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for another score as Hammond ended River Hill’s 30-game winning streak with a 47-38 victory.
That came on the heels of Martin’s 286-yard, four touchdown passing effort the previous week in a victory over Marriotts Ridge that at the time set the school record for most yards passing in a game.
For the season, Martin, who also plays baseball, has passed for 1,303 yards and 18 touchdowns with just two interceptions.
