Luciano Acosta scored late to help D.C. United beat the Philadelphia Union, 2-1, in the preseason Suncoast Invitational on Saturday.

Acosta scored the goal in the 89th minute, one minute after the Union leveled the score at 1-1 on Cory Burke’s goal.

Acosta’s goal came on a giveaway by the Union on defense that he calmly finished in the bottom corner to put United ahead late.

In the first half, Jamaican international Darren Mattocks – who was traded to United from the Portland Timbers in December – scored in the 14th minute on a diving header off a Zoltan Stieber cross.

For Mattocks, it was his second goal in two preseason games with United. He also scored in a preseason match against Swedish side Malmo FF on Feb. 8 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

United’s game against the Union was held at Al Lang Stadium.

United will next play preseason matches against Jacksonville Armada and Las Vegas Lights FC. The game against the Armada will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. ET at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater, Florida; the game against the Lights will be played on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 p.m. ET at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

Armada plays in the NPSL, the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid; the Lights, an expansion team, will play in the USL.

United opens the regular season on March 3 at Orlando City. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
