Wizards fans celebrate division crown
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
After 38 years the drought is finally over: Tuesday night the Washington Wizards clinched their first division title since 1979 with a 119-108 comeback win over the LA Lakers.
Back in March of 1979 the then-Bullets were the reigning world champions, Jimmy Carter was president, “Tragedy” by the Bee Gees was the number one song in America and “The China Syndrome” was on top at the movies.
In the 2016-2017 season, the focus for Wizards' fans is on local superstar John Wall. Juan Natal of Kensington is a huge fan of Wall's "moves, his dribbling skills, everything about him.”
“I’m from D.C., born and raised,” says Anthony Brown, who loves the Wiz, and is a bartender at 10 Tavern across from the Verizon Center.
He says the success of the Wizards and the Caps- who hold the best record in the NHL- is making for one fun year downtown.
“It’s great. It’s brought a buzz back to the city," says Brown. "Games across the street have been doing well and we’re having fun with it.”
