The Washington Redskins Cheerleaders are one of the longest running pro squads, if not the longest, and they are very busy during the offseason.
In fact, they are looking for new members. The Washington Redskins cheerleaders are getting ready to host their prep audition classes. ABC7’s John Gonzalez went to find out about the business of Cheerleading.
"Well as a team we practice 8-12 hours a week," said Redskins cheerleader Jamilla.
"Definitely a lot of hard work," said Redskins cheerleader Stephanie.
Gonzalez’s audition started off with that all so important stretch. Then, it was off to some shaking, raising, some hip movement and kicking.
These prep classes will he held Tuesday's and Thursday's until early April.
"You know it’s the little extra things to get you to the top," said Redskins cheerleader Tiana.
"It taught me how I should be dressing, my fitness," said Redskins cheerleader Maya.
Once you're on the elite squad, it’s not only about football.
"I've been to Dominican Republic... Based on tour, it’s been great," said Redskins cheerleader Mila.
But of course the football is great too. “”The excitement you feel from the fans... Something I'll never forget," said Redskins cheerleader Rachel.
And the aches and bruises is something Gonzalez said he will never forget.
To become a Washington Redskins cheerleader, you must be 18 years or older, have a full or part time job, be a full time college student or have a family. No men are allowed.
