(WJLA) - Another somber milestone in a life and career that never was is marked Monday, the day that would have ben Len Bias' 50th birthday.

The Maryland Terrapins basketball star and #2 NBA draft pick would have turned 50 on Nov. 18.

Bias died on June 19, 1986 at the age of 22 after overdosing on cocaine in a residence hall on Maryland's College Park campus. His death, which occurred just two days after being taken second overall by the Boston Celtics in that year's NBA Draft, sent shockwaves across the country.

His number now hangs from the rafters at the Comcast Center. A documentary on Bias' life and death was produced and first aired in November of 2009 on ESPN.

Len Bias would've celebrated his 50th birthday today. RIP.
