(WJLA) - It’s time to get to work. The Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry is coming back – starting with the 2015-16 season.
“It’s a good thing. I think this is one of the few meaningful rivalries in college basketball,” said Hoyas head coach John Thompson III.
JTIII was weened on Hoyas-‘Cuse. His father, John Thompson, Jr., turned what was a simple "Big East" matchup into a huge national spectacle.
“I’ve seen every game. I’ve been emotionally tied to every game. It’s something that you get excited about," added JTIII.
And count another Thompson among those looking forward to the renewed rivalry: JTIII’s son Matthew joined dad on campus.
“Our schedule... we get so little time to spend with him… he’s out of school so we’re getting ready to go into the gym and get a workout.”
With dad-slash-coach running the show, Matthew was practically nothing but net - and now that the Hoyas most bitter rival is back on the horizon, maybe Matthew one day will get to play - or coach – against Syracuse.
Joked Thompson: “No. No. We’re going to stop that coaching thing pretty soon. We’re hoping he can own a team.”
