George Mason to remain in Colonial Athletic Association

George Mason University has decided to remain in the Colonial Athletic Association.

At least for the time being.

The school had met with representatives from the Atlantic 10, a league with a higher{ }basketball profile than that of the CAA.

According to the Washington Post, Athletic Director Tom O'Connor said the school " felt it was in our best interests to stay.”{ }

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, O'Connor said Mason had two guiding principles as it explored the A-10: "Our goals" for the athletic program and "our choice" independent of other schools.

Ultimately, he said, the Patriots felt it was in their best interests to stay because they are a founding member of the league (in 1982), because of the league's geographic and competitive stability, and because "we think good things will happen with the CAA in the future."{ }
