A quickly-formed development agency wants to place an enormous sports and entertainment complex at the site of a previously-existing 15-acre park in Alexandria, the Washington Business Journal reports.

The complex, as pitched to the city of Alexandria by St. James Group LLC, would include everything from a fieldhouse to an Olympic-sized pool and aquatic facility to a pair of full-sized hockey rinks.

"We think it's something that the region will definitely be able to support," Craig Dixon, one of the partners with St. James, told the Business Journal. "It's the kind of facility we would have liked to compete in and train in when we were growing up."

The site they've picked is Joseph Hensley Park, which consists of more than 21 acres worth of softball fields, soccer fields and picnic grounds on Eisenhower Avenue, just west of the Great Waves Waterpark.

The group did not tell the Washington Business Journal how much the project would cost.
