The Georgetown Hoyas basketball team was involved in a brawl during an exhibition game in China on Thursday, one that head coach John Thompson III says the team "sincerely regrets."

Various reports from Beijing say that the Hoyas, who were playing the Bayi Rockets, were pulled off the floor in the 4th quarter after the fight broke out and the players were showered with plastic bottles.

The Washington Post reports that the game was tied at 64 with under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter when tensions, which were already high during the game, exploded into an all-out brawl.

The fight was first reported by Gene Wang of the Post on his Twitter page.

Wang says the Hoyas are in the middle of a 10-day goodwill trip to China. It is not known if the team will return to Washington early.

In a statement released by the university, Thompson said:

"Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams. We sincerely regret that this situation occurred.

We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University."
